A Completed Bishop for Miss Aimee!

This afternoon I finished Little Miss Aimee's baby shower gift.
I know the pics are bad...that's what I get for taking them inside and then attempting to "enhance" them.
I am not the photographer at all.
I couldn't take them outside as it was raining...again...sigh!
I know much of the country is in a major drought, but we are about to float away.
2 inches of rain fell on Wed. afternoon, 1.5 inches on Thursday, 1.5 inches on Friday, less than 1/2 inch on Saturday...and more today.
All of last week's rain was on top of the 10 inches we received week-before-last.

Dear Lord, please send our everyday thunderstorms to areas of our country that are parched and badly in need of liquid sunshine.  Amen.

On the table....amazingly in all this rain and heat, I found two pretty hydrangea blooms which I promptly cut and brought inside where I can enjoy them...along with my candles and seashells (from Marshall's $2.99 per bag.)

More scattered thoughts:

My babysitter helper extraordinaire is going back to school next week.
Which means, I'll have the busiest, fastest crawling, 11 month old puller-upper on everything, man- baby west of the Mississippi, all by myself five days per week!  Whew!
He is constant smiles and energy in motion.
He is definitely busier at this age than his sister, Rosebud was.
He also plays entirely different...like full of testosterone different.

I've been thinking about pies.
Mostly pumpkin and apple as those are my favorites.
We were gifted with a lovely 21 lb. pumpkin friends grew in their garden.
I think pie of some sort is in order this week...with plenty of pumpkin in the freezer for more pies closer to Thanksgiving.

Also concerning pies...
a very good blog post and recipe on homemade pie crust.

Wishing you all a wonderful week!

  1. What a lovely gift! You did a beautiful job on that sweet bishop and the matching panties. That is one of my favorite smocking plates, too.

  2. That is a wonderful gift. I made this dress from ASAE last year and it turned out beautifully. I looked through your smoking album and wondered if you design your own plates for the dresses and bonnets? You don't give the names of the plates so I thought you may design your own. They are lovely! Did you use a published pattern for the bloomers? Great gift.

    1. Thank you :) The bloomer pattern is McCalls 3073. I've had this pattern piece so long and make it over and over. It comes in three sizes on this one pattern piece. This bloomer is the small size for a baby weighing 15-20 lbs. The bishop is size 6 mo. and runs large so it probably will not fit until next spring. No, I do not design my own plates, but do pull elements from different plates I have purchased and also from my AS&E mag. collection. I try to keep a list of what I do so if you have a question about a particular piece I may be able to tell you exactly what I did on that piece. Hopefully :)

    1. Thanks, Dawn :) This is the first time I use the actual pattern in the magazine for this dress. As with most AS&E, I find it runs a little big. I usually use the pattern from Chery Williams Baby Bishops. I need to get them out and compare again as I have a new little niece on the way and have the ingredients to make her a couple or few bishops. :)

  4. Perfect and sweet for a wee little girl! Love your hydrangea blossoms, too. Mine are now a nice crispy brown, thanks to our scorching temperatures. Wishing you a wonderful week!

    1. Thanks, Jan :) These two blossoms were the only two pretty ones on my 3 bushes. The rest were gross, wet, soggy brown. :(

    1. Thank you, Jennifer :) I need a new Nina pic! :) I think I rather the pattern I used for Nina than the pattern I used for this little dress...I still need to compare them.

  6. Oh the dress turned out so sweet. I love how the smocking adds such delicate elastic to the sleeves.
I understand about time, I am swamped. We are in our 2nd week of Seton.. I don't have a lot of time anymore.
    Miss you though.
